Why the Front Door Matters Most
In Feng Shui, the front door is called the "mouth of chi" — it's where energy enters your home. A blocked or unwelcoming entryway restricts the flow of good energy to every room.
Front Door Feng Shui Checklist
- Always open fully: A door that sticks or doesn't open all the way blocks energy
- Clean both sides: Inside the entryway AND outside the door, keep it spotless
- Good lighting: A well-lit entryway welcomes chi
- Inviting mat: A clean, attractive doormat (replace when worn)
- Working doorbell: Sound activates energy
- No clutter: Shoes, coats, and bags should be organized, not piled
Front Door Color & Direction
| Door Faces | Best Colors | Element |
|---|---|---|
| East or Southeast | Green, brown, blue | Wood |
| South | Red, orange, green | Fire |
| Southwest or Northeast | Yellow, beige, red | Earth |
| West or Northwest | White, gray, yellow | Metal |
| North | Blue, black, white | Water |
What to Avoid at Your Front Door
- Dead or dying plants (remove immediately)
- Broken doorbell, peeling paint, or squeaky hinges
- A mirror directly facing the door (bounces chi back out)
- Sharp corners or edges pointing at the door
- A staircase directly facing the door (energy rushes up or down)
Your front door is the first impression — for people AND for energy. If it doesn't feel welcoming to you, it's not welcoming to chi either.
